Israeli politicians welcomed US President Donald Trump's statement on recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state. This caused resentment in the Palestinian Authority and the Arab world.
Our correspondent in the Jewish state Svetlana Glaz tells more in detail:
"US President Donald Trump has declared his promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but noted that the declaration is not a recognition of any boundaries of the city that should be established during the negotiations between the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The White House also called on Israel to exercise restraint in order not to provoke a escalation of the conflict. So far the matter is not about transferring the American embassy to the proclaimed capital.
