The Ukrainian-produced 'Cyborgs' movie by Axtem Seitablaiev, who tells the story about the Ukrainian soldiers defending Donetsk Airport in 2014, has won the box office for the first week, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko has said.
"In the first week when 'Cyborgs' was on, more than 210,000 Ukrainians watched it. The box office has amounted to about UAH 15.8 million [$579,179], an absolute record amount for Ukrainian films," Rozenko wrote on Facebook.
"Support the Ukrainian cinema - it's worth it!" he added.
As was reported earlier, 'Cyborgs' on December 11 won the box office in its first weekend, having collected UAH 8.187 million, or almost $302,000, locally, head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency Pylyp Illenko said.
The previous record belongs to the Ukrainian-produced 'Storozhova Zastava' ('Stronghold' also translated as 'The Watchtower'), which earned UAH 8.184 million in its first weekend. 'Stronghold' is a Ukrainian adventure, fantasy film.
The Ukrainian State Film Agency decided on December 19, 2016, to allocate UAH 23.97 million for the production of 'Cyborgs.'
