Warsaw and Kyiv should raise the historic dialogue to a higher level and resume the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Protection and Return of cultural property that was lost and illegally removed during the Second World War.
This is stated in a statement by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Culture Minister Piotr Glinski by the results of his visit to Kyiv on October 22-23. "We should restore the work of the intergovernmental commission on the protection and return of cultural property, which functioned until 2015... After long, controversial negotiations, the Ukrainian side presented its arguments, but agreed that the commission will continue its work. We want it to start its activities as soon as possible," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on October 23.
Glinski also noted that the Polish side was ready to carry out the search work and put up plaques in memorial sites in case of the impossibility of exhumation with subsequent burial in the territory of one of the states.
"Our proposal was to expand the scope of the work of the commission and separate complex issues from the current ones in order to achieve progress in the search work, exhumation," Glinski added.
