08-02-2010 12:18 CEC member: vote counting process deliberately delayed
District election commissions in Crimea and Luhansk region are deliberately delaying the process for entering votes into the Elections electronic system, Central Election Commission (CEC) member Mykhailo Okhendovsky of the Regions Party said at a briefing on Monday.
Okhendovsky said that the percentage of votes entered into the Elections electronic system in other Ukrainian regions was over 90% and neared 100%, while in Crimea it was only 67% and in Luhansk region 82%. "This gives grounds to conclude that the gap between two candidates for the post of Ukraine's president will obviously rise after all votes are entered into the Elections system," he said, adding that this shows that "one of the candidates is not ready to recognize the wishes of the Ukrainian people." "Due to the instructions given to the members of district and territorial election commissions, the process of summing up the preliminary result of voting in Crimea and Luhansk region is being artificially delayed," Okhendovsky said. With 97.12% of ballots from district election commissions counted, Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych collected 48.41% of the vote, while Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko received 45.94%.
